Greetings! My name is Ellen Lathrop-Davis. I'm the coordinator for BIOL221, Anatomy & Physiology II, both on campus and on-line sections. I also teach A&P I (BIOL 220) lectures and labs and general biology (BIOL110) labs. I've been at CCBC-Catonsville teaching anatomy and physiology since the fall semester of 2000. Before coming here, I taught biology or anatomy and physiology part time at several local community colleges and worked for the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE).
I hold a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky (UK) where I majored in biology and minored in German. Because my ecology professor, Dr. Kuehne, sparked an interest in aquatic ecology, I attended the F.T. Stone Laboratory run by the Ohio State University (OSU). Stone Lab is a field station located on a small island in the Western Basin of Lake Erie. It was there that I met my husband. After I graduated from UK, I attended OSU as a graduate student studying invertebrate zoology and stream ecology. I graduated from OSU with a master's degree in zoology.
I started teaching anatomy and physiology part time at the College of DuPage in suburban Chicago, Illinois. I also taught introductory environmental science, oceanography and pharmacology classes at community colleges in the greater Chicago area. I later attended the University of Maryland - Baltimore County as a graduate student in biology for two years before teaching at several of the local community colleges. I have taught general biology at Montgomery College and Anne Arundel Community College and A&P at Howard Community College. I also worked at the Maryland Department of the Environment for over two years before I was hired to teach full time at CCBC-Catonsville in the fall of 2000.
In my spare time, which, as you can imagine, is somewhat limited, I like to ride bicycles with my three kids, canoe, watch birds, crochet, and read. I especially enjoy Discover magazine, books on physiology (one can never know too much), and science fiction books, especially those by Michael Crichton. I also love to play on my computer and "surf the net" for all kinds of information. Expect to see many links for A&P II. If you find good websites, please do share them!
