The Language of Anatomy

  1. Define and describe the anatomical position.
  2. Define and describe body regions, planes and sections.
  3. Locate and name the major body cavities and their subdivisions.
  4. Name the body membranes.

Levels of Structural Organization

  1. Name the different levels of structural organization.
  2. Define atom, molecule, cell, tissue, organ, organ system, and organism.

Maintaining Life

  1. Name and define the necessary life functions.

Homeostasis

  1. Define homeostasis.
  2. List the components of a control system.
  3. Explain the importance of negative and positive feedback systems.
  4. Describe the role of each and give examples of internal conditions that are regulated by negative and positive feedback systems.

Body Fluids

  1. State the average total body fluid volume.
  2. Name the major fluid compartments of the body and state their importance.
  3. State the volume of each compartment.
  4. Define electrolyte and nonelectrolytes.
  5. Compare the electrolyte composition of extracellular fluid (blood plasma, interstitial fluid) and intracellular fluid.
