Astronomy (ASTM 101) is an introductory level astronomy course that meets the general education requirements for a science course at CCBC. Taken with ASTM 102, it meets the general education requirements for a laboratory science course. In this course, you will be introduced to basic astronomical principles and the scientific processes which have led to our current understanding of the universe.
NOTE: Although this course is designed for non-science majors, the student taking this course should have successfully completed high school or college algebra. However, commonly astronomical concepts are expressed mathematically. Therefore an ability to understand mathematical expressions is important.
Taking a course on-line will give you both increased control over your learning environment and access to information that is not available in a traditional section. The approximate amount of time/week you can expect to spend on this course can be calculated using the same formula used for a traditional course, 3 times the number of contact hours/week. Since this class is a 3 credit course (3 hours contact hours/week), the AVERAGE number of hours you can expect to spend is 3 x 3 hours of class time/week = 9 hours/week during a typical 14 week spring or fall semester. This is an average. The amount of time you will spend will vary depending on your background, learning style and familiarity with online technology. Students new to the online environment will more than likely require more time at the beginning of the semester in order to become familiar with WebCT/Blackboard.
