CINS 134 Comprehensive Database

Welcome

Welcome to CINS 134—Comprehensive Database

Welcome to CINS 134! Taking this class provides you with an excellent opportunity to move from the basic introductory concepts in database applications and build your skills up to the advanced datasbase concepts level. I love the teaching profession, and believe it or not, I particularly enjoy teaching Microsoft Access. I am also looking forward to teaching this course using this new hybrid format. This is an excellent opportunity for any one interested in database applications using the Microsoft Office Access software package to enhance their skills.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS SECTION?

This section of CINS 134 is a hybrid.  Hybrid courses are designed to give you a flexible learning experience by blending the traditional face-to-face format with online learning, giving you the best of both worlds.  What this means is you can combine the convenience of working at home to complete parts of the course with the benefit of face-to-face meetings.  There will be 7 required face-to-face meetings where our class will discuss course concepts and work on lab projects.

This course meets on the Essex campus in N-310 from 6-8:55 pm on the following 7 Tuesdays:

In this course you will use Microsoft Access 2007.  Introductory concepts will be reviewed, and you will then learn intermediate and advanced database concepts including Access Structured Query Language (SQL) fundamentals. You will also learn to integrate Access data with Internet Explorer and other software in the Office 2007 suite to increase productivity, reduce errors and save time and effort.

Concepts taught in this course are MOS -Microsoft Office Specialist (formerly MOUS: Microsoft Office User Specialist) certified. This is one of several courses in the Information Technology Degree, Information Management Certificate, and the Microsoft Office Certificate. This course is also an elective for the, Database Concentration of the Information Technology Degree. If you have further questions about our course offering, please don't hesitate to contact me.
