Welcome
Studying law is stimulating, intellectually demanding – and fun.
Law is probably the most important external factor affecting business operations. The study of law provides an understanding of the nature, functions, and practical operations of the legal system. It also provides considerable information about the most important substantive legal rules restricting – and facilitating – business operations. Finally, it develops both critical reasoning skills and an appreciation of the social, ethical, and economic forces that help make the law what it is.
The courts play a significant role in deciding how the law applies to business transactions, both traditional and in cyberspace. Learning how to read and understand law is an important step in preparing to participate effectively in a business environment. Law is always changing and business must be prepared to meet the challenges presented by those changes, particularly with respect to cyberspace law.
Effective managers and employees must develop knowledge of both law and business because people involved in business are greatly affected by the laws concerning businesses and the link between law and business continues to grow.
In this course, the student will have the opportunity to investigate the essential functions of law and the U.S. legal system. Fundamental classifications of law will be explored and the constitution framework of such laws. The student will be introduced to the primary sources of law and legal reasoning and the predominant schools of legal philosophy.
