Orientation Information
What a way to go to college! On line learning allows you to learn anywhere, anytime and anyplace. Please send me an e-mail at nnix@ccbcmd.edu if you decide to enroll in the course. I will forward you important information regarding an orientation session. Although we all have busy schedules, I would advise that you make plans to attend the orientation session as all of your questions regarding the design, set up and expecations of this course will be explained. You will also have an opportunity at the orientation to log into the actual course!
There is certainly something to be said for the great flexibility of distance learning. However, as with any course, there are time lines and due dates that must be adhered to in the Social Problems course. It is important to note that this is not a “self- paced” course. The due dates for the assignments are provided for you in your syllabus and on the course's homepage under the “course assignments and drop box” link. You will have to log in daily to check e-mail and important course announcements. There will also be opportunities to participate in live chats and post comments to the class's discussion board.
Although this is a web course, I will expect full participation from all students. As a course in the discipline of Sociology, you cannot live in a vacuum. The course comes alive with student interaction and participation. CCBC is a “learning college”. In this effort we believe that the learning experience is enhanced through the student's perspective. We recognize and celebrate diversity and varying views from our students based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, social class etc. I will expect that all students will be respectful of other student's perspectives regarding social problems as you make weekly contributions to the discussion board and participate in periodic chats.
Take a look at some of the exciting topics and activities planned for this course. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you at some point in the future.
