Haven't received login information

During the month prior to the start of classes you will receive a letter in the mail that contains your WebCT ID and password, as well as the login instructions.
If you have not received this letter one week before the start of classes, please call 410-455-4295, or email either bschwart@ccbcmd.edu or jsarinsky@ccbcmd.edu.

Course doesn't appear on the "MyWebCT" page

If under "Courses" on your MyWebCT page, there is a line that says, "You have not added any courses," it means that the instructor has not yet made the course accessible. A course will appear on MyWebCT page only when the instructors imports his or her students into the class database. Many faculty choose to wait until the first day of the semester to import their students so that the entire class begins at the same time. If the course does not appear on your MyWebCT page by the first day of the semester, please contact your instructor immediately.

NOTE: If your instructor confirms that your are imported into the class, but you still do not see your class listed on your myWebCT page, Donald Stitz (410.455.4513).

Registered late

If you register late for an online course and/or do not receive a letter with your login information by the first day of classes, you should do one of the following:

Login doesn't work

If you get a message such as "Incorrect ID or password," "Page cannot be displayed," or "Cannot find server," it usually indicates one of the following causes. Please try to eliminate all of these possibilities before contacting us:

  • Check to make sure that you've entered your ID and password correctly. You WebCT ID may or may not include your first initial and full last name. Enter all letters in lower case - WebCT is case-sensitive. Be sure to distinguish any lower case "L" from a numeral "1."
  • You're working from a business or institutional PC that has a firewall installed. Try the login link at http://student.ccbcmd.edu/distance/online/helpdesk.html#firewall. This connection will be slower and we cannot guarantee access to all components of your course. If this connection does not work, contact your institution's IT staff for assistance.
  • You have installed anti pop-up software on your PC. These programs can block WebCT. You will have to uninstall or disable the program for the duration of the course.
  • You have set your Internet security setting too high. Try lowering the setting in the browser that you are using (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc).
  • Your PC has been infected with spyware, adware, or other "deceptive software." These programs can interfere with WebCT. There are detection and removal utilities that you can download from the Internet. Click here for more information.

If you cannot find a satisfactory solution, contact either Donald Stitz (dstitz@ccbcmd.edu, 410.455.4513) or Joel Martin (jmartin@ccbcmd.edu, 410.455.4584).

Lost/Forgotten ID or password

If you forget your password, use this Password Hint to have your password changed and e-mailed to you. This facility can be used only after you have logged in successfully and created your password hint.

Forgot your WebCT ID? Use the WebCT Login Hint to have your WebCT ID and a new password e-mailed to you. This facility can be used only after you have logged in successfully and created your password hint.

Please note that when you use the Password Hint or the WebCT Login Hint, your password will be changed. You can use the Change Password tool on your myWebCT page to change the new password to something that is more user friendly.

Problems with employer's firewall

If you are accessing WebCT from your office, you may run into problems with your company's network and firewalls. If you can access your course from home, but not from work, that might indicate that you are behind a firewall. This would preventing you from logging in to WebCT. You can try using the login button below.

Note: Logging in from this location should not be used unless you are behind a firewall. This connection will be slower and we cannot guarantee access to all components of your course.

Logging out of WebCT

There is a log out button in a WebCT course. To logout, you MUST CLICK the log out link at the top of the page. If you are working on a computer that is used by others, it is CRITICAL that you exit WebCT each time you finish doing work in the course. If you don't exit, a person using that machine after you will have access to your course materials, could send e-mail in your name, and could view your confidential student record.

Problems with AOL

On our web site, we point out that AOL users may experience some problems with WebCT. The reason for this is that the AOL browser is a CUSTOMIZED version of Internet Explorer. It is not a standard version of IE. For example, if you are using AOL 6 you will probably have a problem sending e-mail in WebCT. Here are 2 possible solutions:

Option One:

  1. Complete your AOL connection.
  2. Minimize your AOL window. DO NOT CLOSE YOUR CONNECTION.
  3. Open a new instance of your browser window by clicking on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop or from the Start menu on your computer.
  4. Access your course through the new Internet Explorer browser window, not the AOL window.

Option Two:

  1. Download and install a stand-alone browser that is WebCT compliant.
  2. Connect as usual with AOL.
  3. Open the browser you installed without disconnecting from AOL.
  4. Access the URL of your on-line course.

Go to the Technical Requirements page for more details.

Courses from previous semester still on MyWebCT page

If you have courses from a previous semester on your MyWebCT page, please contact the instructor from that class and have the instructor remove you from the class.
