Solving Polynomial Equations

1. Solve  x² + 7x - 30 = 0

  x = 3,  x = -10

  x = -3, x = 10

  x = 0, x = -3, x = -10

2. Solve 6x² + 13x + 5  =  0

  x = -1,  x =  -5

  

 

3. Solve 9x² - 6x + 1  =  0

  x = -

  x = 

 x = 3

4. The measurements of the three sides of a right triangle are consecutive integers.   The hypotenuse is 2 meters longer than the shortest side.  One leg it 1 meter longer than the shorter leg.  What are the lengths of each side?

 Short leg -3 meters, Long leg -4 meters, Hypotenuse -5 meters

 Short leg 1 meters, Long leg 2 meters, Hypotenuse 3 meters

 Short leg 3 meters, Long leg 4 meters, Hypotenuse 5 meters

5. The Essex Candy Company has determined that the number of pounds of candy they can sell is related to the price by the equation

where x is the number of cookies, in pounds, and p is the price per pound.  What price should be charged for a weekly revenue of $500?  Remember that R(x) = x*p.

 The price charged should be $10.

 The price charged should be $50.

 The price charged should be -$50.
