Multiplying and Dividing Rational Expression

line

1. Multiply [(x^2-2x-15)/(xy)] divided by [(x^2+x)/(x-5)]


  (x+3)(x+1)

 (x+3)(x+1) / x

  (x+3)(x+1) / y


2. Multiply  [(xy+3y^2)/(x+3y)] divided by [(y-1)(y^3-y)

  1/(y+1)

  (y-1)/(y^2-1)

  (xy + y)/(y-1)


3. Multiply [(x^2-y^2)/(x^2+y^2)] divided by [(x^2+y^2)/(x^3-y^3)

  (x+y)/(x^3-y^3)

  (x+y)/(x^2+xy+y^2)

   (x-y)/[(x+y)(x^2-xy+y^2)]

 

4. Divide  [(x+y)/(x+1)] divided by [(x^2-y^2)/(x^2-1)]

 (x-1)/(x-y)

 (x+y)/(x^2-y^2)

 [(x+y)(x-y)(x+y)]/[(x+1)(x-1)(x+1)]



5. Divide  [(x^2+xa+xb+ba)/(x^2+xc+xa+ac] divided by [(x^2+xb+xa+ba)/(x^2+xc+xb+cb)]

Hint:  Try factoring by grouping.

  [(x+a)(x+b)/(x+c)(x+c)]

  (x+b)/(x+c)

  (xb+xa+2ba)/(2xc+ac+cb)


6. Divide  [(x^2+1)/(x^2-1) divided by (x^2+1)]

  x2 + 1

 1/(x^2-1)

  (x^2+1)^2 / (x^2-1)
