Quadratic Equations Part 2:  The Quadratic Formula

line

1. Solve:  x2 + 6x = -8.

 x = {2, 4}

 x = {-4, -2}

 No Solution.

2. Solve:   1/5x^2 + x = -6/5.

  x = {2/3, 1}

  x = {-3, -2}

  x = No Solution.

3. Solve:  50x2 + 250x + 300= 0.

  x = {2, 3}

  x = {20, 30}

  x = No Solution.

4. Solve:  x2 - 15x + 66 = 10.

 x = {11,6}

 x = {7, 8}

 No Solution.

5. Solve:  x2 - 8x + 2  =   0.

 x = 2 +/- sqrt(14)

 x = 2 +/- sqrt(7)

 No Solution.

6.   Solve:  x2 + 10x - 4   =   0.

 x = -5 +/- sqrt(29)

 x = -5 +/- 2 sqrt(29)

 No Solution.

7. Solve:  2x2 + 8x - 3   =   0.

 x = [-4 +/- sqrt(22)]/2

 x = -4 +/- sqrt(22)

 No Solution.

8. Solve  3x2 + 8x = 1.

 x = -4 +/- sqrt(19)

 x = [-4 +/- sqrt(19)] / 3

No Solution.

9. The Essex Cookie Company sells the best chocolate fudge cookie known to mankind. The cost, in dollars, per week to produce a pound of these cookies is C(x) = 3x + 25.   The amount of weekly revenue the company receives is R(x) = 12x - 0.3x2.  How many pounds of cookies must be sold for ECC to earn $35?

 Either 26 or 9 pounds.

 35 pounds.

20 pounds.
