Exponential Functions


1.  Graph f(x) = x2 - 4x - 5.

a].  x-intercepts at x = -1, 5
b].  Intercepts at x = -1, 5, opens downward
c].  no x-intercepts

2.     Graph f(x) = -2x2 + 3x - 1.

a].   x-intercepts at 1/2, 1 opens down
b].  x-intercepts at 1/2, 1 opens upward
c].   x-intercepts at -1/2, 1

3.    Determine the axis of symmetry for the quadratic function f(x) = x2 + 12x - 15.

a].   x = 6

b].   x = -6

c].   x = 12

4.  What is the vertex of f(x) = 2x2 - 4x + 1? 

a]. (4, 17)

b]. (1, 7)

c]. (1, -1)


5. What is the domain and range of the quadratic function f(x) = x2 + 4x - 7? 

a].  The domain is all reals.  The range is f(x) less than or equal to -11.

b]. The domain is all reals.  The range is f(x) greater than or equal to -11.

c].  The domain and range is all reals.
