The Community College of Baltimore County created The Environment Project in 1994. One year later, the Maryland Higher Education Commission approved the state's first A.A.S. in Environmental Science and Technology. Since then, enrollment in environmental science credit courses has increased over 500% and the number of classes offered has grown from 13 to over 60 annually. Since its inception, The Environment Project has worked with companies, government agencies, education institutions and non-profit organizations. Over 8,000 students, professionals and representatives from business, government, education and non-profits have attended its courses, conferences and workshops. This includes representatives from over four hundred companies and organizations from Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region. Project staff have been active in national environmental, economic and workforce development initiatives. The include the creation of a US National Environmental Industry Coalition and the Institute of Corporate Environmental Mentoring. Project staff have worked with White House staff, federal agency administrators, and CEOs and staff from some of the largest North American and multinational corporations. These include 3M, AT&T, Lockheed Martin, Lucent, Monsanto, Motorola, R.R. Donnelley and Volvo North America. |
