    Information Literacy through the Internet

    Description

    This information literacy course will help students develop the ability to define an information need, understand available sources of information, and evaluate the information found. The underlying resource is the Internet, including utilities such as email, FTP, Telnet, and web page development. Students will choose, locate and obtain research materials on a wide range of topics relevant to their interests and fields of study. Information retrieved will be used to evaluate and analyze data and to make written reports and presentations. Prerequisites: Reading Skill 1, English Skill 1, and previous word processing experience or consent of instructor.

    COURSE DESCRIPTION: Introduction to Computers is a survey of the fields of computers, data processing and information technology.  Computers are studied to familiarize students with the theoretical and applied principles of hardware and software.  Computer laboratory sessions will introduce students to a variety of software packages that will include word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, communications, Internet and database management functions.
