I am a full-time Assistant Professor of English and Mass Communication on the Catonsville campus. I teach many different classes including Basic Writing I and II, College Composition I and II, Introduction to Journalism, Business Communications, and Historic and Aesthetic Perspectives of Film. I also am the Faculty Advisor for Catonsville's student newspaper, Red & Black. I have been working at CCBC since 2001.

I was born and raised in Middlesex County, New Jersey and grew up in a sleepy town named Milltown located approximately 50 miles southwest of New York City. Like you, I also attended a community college: you guessed it - Middlesex County Community College in Edison, New Jersey. I received my Associate Degree in Liberal Arts and then attended Rutgers University, where I received a BA in English. After I graduated in 1993, I worked as a staff writer and beat reporter for Greater Media Newspapers in Central New Jersey. In 1995, I did some traveling with my girlfriend, Patty, in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala and throughout the United States. We settled in New Mexico, and during our stay in The Land of Enchantment, I attended The University of New Mexico to earn my teacher's license in Secondary English Education. I taught some high and middle school in Albuquerque. I have since traveled to Jamaica, the Bahamas, England, Wales, and Ireland.

Fortunately, Patty and I decided to marry and start a family, but before we did, we moved back east to Maryland to be closer to our family and friends. We married in June 1998 and bought a home in Owings Mills in 1999. During this time, I attended Loyola College in Baltimore and received my Master of Arts in Liberal Studies degree. Prior to teaching at CCBC, I worked at Community of Science, Inc., an information technology company, where I was responsible for lots of tasks including technical writing and editing, software development and testing, and customer service. I also worked for a while at Sylvan Learning Systems. In 1999, our daughter Isabella was born; in 2001, our son Benjamin entered the world.

Outside of CCBC, I enjoy watching, writing, studying, and reading about films. I am a true movie junkie. I also am an avid angler and love hiking in the local forests and parks looking for trout (among other small treasures). I am fascinated by the Chesapeake Bay and try to spend as much time as possible near it. I am also interested in Buddhism and am a huge fan of NHL hockey and the NFL. Go Devils and 49ers! I also am a musician and have been known to pluck a few funky bass chords in my day. I love many kinds of music. Visit my Music page for more information about my musical interests.

I am also a freelance writer and editor. My work has appeared in Senses of Cinema, Classic-Horror, Bay Weekly, The Baltimore Sun, The News Transcript, Blue Ridge Country, and The Home-News Tribune. I also have a great interest in journalism and am currently seeking a Certificate in Online Journalism from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
