A Body – Group Work
You’ve
received a grant to develop an artificial human from the same tissues available
in regular humans. Indicate what you’d choose for each of the following:
- Framework
for protection and leverage
- Structures
for movement of the frame (assume you want voluntary movement)
- A
pump that can provide propulsion for the hydraulic system that moves
fluids around that can act independently
- A
membrane for maximum exchange (absorption from one compartment to another)
between compartments (e.g., air and fluid)
- Material
to cover the surface of the body and other areas where abrasion might
occur
- Material
to connect the covering to underlying structures and provide nutrients
to it
- A
tissue that can be used to control the structures that provide movement
You
may find that more than one tissue might work for certain functions. After
you've decided what you might choose if you could, compare it to what the human
body really uses in these situation.
