A Body Group Work
What
the body really uses:
- Framework
for protection and leverage: bone (and cartilage)
- Structures
for movement of the frame (assume you want voluntary movement): skeletal
muscle
- A
pump that can provide propulsion for the hydraulic system that moves
fluids around that can act independently: cardiac muscle
(smooth muscle is used primarily to control the size of the tubes or to move
through tubes but not as a single pump)
- A
membrane for maximum exchange (absorption from one compartment to another)
between compartments (e.g., air and fluid): simple squamous
epithelium (other simple tissues would work for secretion and absorption,
but the shortest distance is with the thinnest membrane)
- Material
to cover the surface of the body and other areas where abrasion might
occur: stratified squamous epithelium
- Material
to connect the covering to underlying structures and provide nutrients
to it: areolar connective tissue (which has blood vessels
carrying blood running through it) and dense irregular connective tissue for
strength
- A
tissue that can be used to control the structures that provide movement:
nervous tissue
You
may find that more than one tissue might work for certain functions.
