Quickly read chapter 20

1. Given structures of a series of polyenes, be able to classify them as conjugated, isolated or cumulated systems.

2. Be able to show both 1,2 and 1,4, addition reactions of one mol of HX or Br₂ to a given conjugated diene.

3. Be able to describe what is meant by kinetic versus thermodynamic control in the addition of one mol of HX or Br₂ to a conjugated diene.

4. Be able to rank a series of dienes by thermodynamic stability, given their structures

5. Be able to associate a given UV spectrum with one of a series of polyenes. Be able to predict which compound would have the longest λ max.
