Traditional Face-to-face Classes

These classes meet either two days a week or three days a week, for a total of about three hours each week. The meetings take place in a classroom on campus or at an extension center. The instructor determines the setup of the class and specific policies for grading. Some semesters may also offer weekend classes that meet once a week.

At Catonsville, all traditional sections have a departmental midterm and a departmental final exam. These two exams together make up 50% of the student's grade for the course. The other 50% of the course grade is determined by the instructor through tests, quizzes, homework, etc.

Students with a class average of 90 - 100% earn an A, 80 - 89% earn a B, 70 - 79% earn a C. Any class average below 70% will earn an F for the student. Only students with a C or better will be allowed to register for the next course in the sequence.

Students that have been successful for most of the course, but then are unable to complete the course for extreme cirumstances (admittance to hospital, bedrest for remainder of pregnancy, etc.) may provide documentation of such circumstances to their instructor in order to receive an Incomplete grade for the course. The instructor will determine if the incomplete is warranted and what deadline the student must meet in order for the Incomplete to not turn into a grade of F.

Students that do not attend class may be given an internal grade of FX which means failure due to non-attendance. This grade is used for advisement purposes at CCBC and would appear as an F on any transcript sent to external offices.

It is CCBC's policy that students are allowed to register (that includes W, AU, and F grades) twice for any course. In order to register for the thrid time, a student needs to meet with the Learning Assitance Coordinator on campus to explain their situation and request permission to register for the third attempt. The Learning Assistance Coordiantor, in conjunction with the Math Department Chair, will determine if the student will be allowed to register for a third time or not. Please take each attempt at a course seriously as permission may not be granted for the third time.
