These courses offer a combination of a traditional class and an online class. Students will use WebCT as online students do, but will also have a meeting pattern. A hybrid section with a Tuesday/Thursday meeting pattern may have class on Tuesday and then have an optional lab time on Thursday. The students are required to cover material online in place of the class meeting on Thursday. Students may choose to work from home or attend the lab session. The lab session will allow access to computers and to the instructor for students that need either or both.
Students will have both online quizzes and tests as well as some exams in class sessions. The calendar within WebCT will give students the dates well in advance in order to make certain time is set aside to take all the tests and exams. Communication with the instructor may take place online through WebCT or face-to-face during the scheduled class times.
Students will have time in class sessions and lab sessions to ask questions about content from class or online. Students will be able to review material missed in class sessions online as well as be able to review more challenging material several times. Students with a class average of 90 - 100% earn an A, 80 - 89% earn a B, 70 - 79% earn a C. Any class average below 70% will earn an F for the student. Only students with a C or better will be allowed to register for the next course in the sequence.
Students that have been successful for most of the course, but then are unable to complete the course for extreme cirumstances (admittance to hospital, bedrest for remainder of pregnancy, etc.) may provide documentation of such circumstances to their instructor in order to receive an Incomplete grade for the course. The instructor will determine if the incomplete is warranted and what deadline the student must meet in order for the Incomplete to not turn into a grade of F.
Students that do not attend class may be given an internal grade of FX which means failure due to non-attendance. This grade is used for advisement purposes at CCBC and would appear as an F on any transcript sent to external offices.
It is CCBC's policy that students are allowed to register (that includes W, AU, and F grades) twice for any course. In order to register for the thrid time, a student needs to meet with the Learning Assitance Coordinator on campus to explain their situation and request permission to register for the third attempt. The Learning Assistance Coordiantor, in conjunction with the Math Department Chair, will determine if the student will be allowed to register for a third time or not. Please take each attempt at a course seriously as permission may not be granted for the third time.
