GENERAL GOAL(S):

 

a)     Students have difficulty remembering prime numbers apparently because they donÕt understand what they are.  Students need to know at least the first 10 prime numbers in order to factor and simplify expressions.

b)    Students have difficulty remembering which numbers are perfect squares. Students need to know perfect squares through 13 in order to factor and simplify expressions.

c)     This lesson provides a visual representation of prime numbers and perfect squares.

 

 

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

 

a)     Teach students understanding of prime numbers

b)    Teach students understanding of perfect squares

 

 

REQUIRED MATERIALS:

 

a) Graph paper

 

 

STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURES:

 

a)     Students create prime numbers on graph paper up to 23

b)    Students create perfect squares on graph paper up to 13

 

 


PLAN FOR INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:

 

a)     Instructor demonstrates two prime numbers and two perfect squares

b)    Students complete the rest for homework

c)     Students complete ÒPrime TrianglesÓ worksheet for homework

 

 

ASSESSMENT BASED ON OBJECTIVES:

 

a)     Homework graded on completeness and accuracy of assignment
