Professor Scott Jeffrey is the Program Director of the Geospatial Applications Program and the Director of the Center for Science and Technology. He received a B.S. in Geography from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and a M.S. in Geography and Anthropology from Louisiana State University.
Jaime Alvarez is an Instructor and Program Coordinator for the Geospatial Applications Program on the CCBC-Essex Campus. Mr. Alvarez earned a B.S. in Geography at Towson University in 1997 and an M.A. in Geography from Towson University in 2006. Prior to joining CCBC in August 2007, Jaime was a GIS Specialist with the Towson University Center for Geographic Information Sciences where he served as a technical lead and project manager. In addition, he trained students in numerous aspects of GIS and guest lectured for GIS courses within the Towson University Geography Department. He currently teaches Introduction to GIS, Intermediate GIS, GPS & Remote Sensing, Physical Geography, and Cultural Geography. In conjunction with students from the Geospatial Applications Program, Jaime’s recent work has included mapping the CCBC student population for the college’s Department of Planning, Research, and Evaluation as well as mapping the newly constructed CCBC-Essex Nature and Fitness Trail utilizing GPS.
Ashley Lesh is a GIS Specialist with the Towson University Center for Geographic Information Sciences (TU-CGIS). There she serves as a technical lead, trains students in numerous aspects of GIS, and guest lectures for GIS courses within the Geography Department. Ms. Lesh earned a B.A. in Geography and Environmental Planning at Towson University in 2003, with a concentration in Cartography and GIS, and an M.A. in Geography and Environmental Planning from Towson University, expected in 2007. Her master’s thesis is focused on the implementation of GIS technology in middle and high schools in the State of Maryland. Ms. Lesh is a Geography instructor at the Community College of Baltimore County, Catonsville Campus.
Julie Cornett is an adjunct faculty member that currently works
as a Geographic Information Specialist for the Maryland Poison Center. Ms. Cornett graduated with a B.S. in Geography and Environmental
Planning from Towson University in May 2000 and a M.S. in Applied Information
Technology with a certificate in Database Management from Towson University
in December 2003. She currently teaches Introduction to GIS at the Catonsville
campus.
Erin Lesh is a GIS Specialist with the Maryland Environmental Service (MES). In 2001, Ms. Lesh earned a B.S. in Geography and Environmental Science and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She is expecting an M.A. in Geography and Environmental Planning from Towson University next year. Ms. Lesh is a Geography instructor at the Community College of Baltimore County, Catonsville Campus.
Melinda Frost graduated with a BA in Liberal Arts and a minor in Geography
from Salisbury University in May 1999. She and her husband, Geoff, worked
for 2 years as archeologist. Melinda returned to school and graduated with
a Master of Science in Geography from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville
in May 2003. Her master thesis focused on GIS, Transportation, and Non-Linear
Mathematical Programming. She and her husband returned to Maryland where
she worked as a GIS Programmer for two years at a consulting company specializing
in Transportation. In November of 2005, she joined the GIS team at Baltimore
County Office of Information Technology as a GIS Programmer. She teaches
Geospatial Analysis and Decision Making (GEOA 210).
Julia Lukens currently works for the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development in Downtown Baltimore. There she serves as the department's GIS Coordinator, providing GIS services and support to approximately 250 employees. Prior to joining the state, Ms. Lukens was a Project Manager/GIS Analyst at the GIS firm of Spatial Systems Associates, Inc. Ms. Lukens graduated with a B.S. in Geographic and Environmental Systems and a Cartography Certificate from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in December 2000.
Brad Davis is an adjunct faculty member who works for the Maryland Environmental Service (MES). His role at MES has chiefly been as an on-site consultant to other state agencies. He has served with the State Highway Administration’s (SHA) Regional and Intermodal Planning Department and his past project work there included Using Remotely Sensed Imagery to Detect Highway Features and Signage and a Comprehensive Corridor Study for the State of Maryland. Brad has also done fieldwork in Invasive Species Mapping for SHA and Repetitive Flood Loss Mapping for Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). Brad’s current position is within the Governor’s Office where he builds and maintains interactive web-based map applications used to show Stimulus Funding, Capital Budget Funding, and Vaccine Availability. Brad earned a bachelors degree in Economics in 2001 and a second bachelors in Geography in 2007 from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
