CINS General Education Courses

CINS101 - 3 Credits - Introduction to Computers discusses introductory computer concepts and the impact of computers on business and society placing emphasis on the application of technology. This course is designed to help students acquire a basic understanding of how computers process data into information through the integrated use of hardware and software. Computer laboratory sessions will introduce students to a variety of software packages that will include word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, communications, and database management functions. 

 

Prerequisites: (ENGL 051 or LVE 1) and (RDNG 051 or LVR 1)

 

CINS 116 – 3 Credits – Emerging PC Software explores emerging application software and technologies for PC and mobile devices. Students utilize Productivity Suites, Desktop Publishing, Web Authoring and other personal computer software to increase productivity, produce professional documents, as well as manage and share information for education, employment and personal enrichment. This course is designed for students with previous software knowledge that desire to get an introduction to the latest application software.

 

Prerequisites: (ENGL 051 or LVE 1) and (RDNG 051 or LVR 1)

 

CINS 120 – 3 Credits – Diversity in a Technological Society explores the influences of technology on human diversity. Students are introduced to basic human relationship factors, international cultures, technologies, people with disabilities, human and data communications, Artificial Intelligence, computer security, and various individuals who have influenced technology. This course serves as a general education requirement and a diversity requirement.

 

Prerequisites: (RDNG 052 or ESOL 054 or LVR2); (ENG 052 or LVE2); (MATH 081 or LVM1) or permission of program coordinator.

 

CINS 155 – 3 Credits - Internet Principles introduces techniques for searching the Internet, evaluating online information and creating web pages.  This course is designed to cover Internet components, terminology, history, and ethical and security issues. Students will be able to create and publish web pages using HTML.

 

Prerequisites: ENGL 051 or LVE1 or (ESOL 051 or LVE 1) RDNG 051 or LVR1.
